October 2009: Wizard Wiha
Static Safe Environments (SSE) is delighted to announce that it has become a distributor of Wiha ESD hand tools. SSE has never before supplied hand tools and Managing Director, Paul Dickins recognized that there was a gap in the already extensive range of specialist ESD products and services offered by the company.
"I regularly spend time out with members of my Field Sales Team and requests for ESD hand tools are becoming increasingly common. SSE has a well known and well deserved reputation for supplying premium quality ESD products and we searched to find a supplier who could provide us with great quality, brilliant support and outstanding service; Wiha was our choice."
Wiha has been manufacturing in Germany for 70 years and has been developing its range of ESD hand tools over the last 10 years.
The Wiha range of ESD tools is comprehensive but not daunting in size. It includes screwdrivers with fixed blades, screwdrivers with reversible and interchangeable blades and even screwdrivers with adjustable torque settings.

Wiha ESD pliers come in a range of sizes and styles to suit every conceivable electronics application. A special feature of all Wiha pliers is their distinctive black and yellow handles which are 100% dissipative. This cannot be said for all ESD pliers where only certain parts of the handles are dissipative.

There is an excellent choice of 15 types of tweezers made from chromium-nickel stainless steel with a special ESD surface coating. All tweezers are supplied in packs of ten.

During 2006, Wiha launched its ground breaking, non metallic, ESD Dial Calliper with a reading accuracy of 0.1 mm. This calliper is the only genuine ESD calliper available in the UK market and the product demonstrates Wiha’s determination to always stay one step ahead of the competition.

Notwithstanding Wiha’s commitment to product development, further evidence of their devotion to dealing with ESD was the launch of a 32 page catalogue earlier this year exclusively dedicated to ESD hand tools.
Wiha Key Account Manager, Andrew Levick said, "I am delighted to be looking after the SSE account, they are a very professional company that clearly knows a huge amount about coping with the problems caused by electrostatic discharge.
As the only dedicated ESD equipment supplier exclusively handling the Wiha range I am determined to give the SSE sales team all the support I can in promoting the brand."
Find out more about the Wiha range of ESD hand tools by speaking to a member of SSE’s field sales team or phoning or emailing our Sales Office to request a catalogue. Sue Hancocks, SSE’s Sales Office Manager is looking forward to hearing from you; 01384 899288, s.hancocks@static-safe.co.uk.
August 2009: Megger Men
Featuring for the first time in Static Safe Environments’ (SSE) new 2009 catalogue is a brand new Multi-Range Megohmeter the Megger MIT 415.
With its distinctive and modern styling, large combined analogue and dual digital readout and functional, no nonsense controls the Megger MIT 415 is destined to become a firm favourite with all ESD professionals.
The instrument is ideal for carrying out resistance checks on ESD floors, ESD bench tops, ESD chairs and all features of ESD Protected Areas. The low test voltage insulation ranges make the MIT 415 absolutely ideal for ESD testing.
The first two recipients of the new Megger MIT 415 were SSE’s Sales Manager and ESD expert, Mark Farrell and SSE’s Technical Sales Engineer, Geoff King. Both Mark and Geoff have started using their Megger MIT 415s when carrying out ESD surveys to assess the performance of ESD Protected Areas (EPAs) and make recommendations regarding improvements or changes that need to be made.
Mark is delighted with the new meter, "It is sturdy and well protected with a rubber surround but very portable and easy to carry around (it weighs just 775g). Best of all it’s easy to use and the readout is extremely clear. This feature is vital when I am assessing ESD installations, I need to record all readings very carefully, there is no room for error. The range of test voltages is perfect for my purposes, where resistances are below 1 megohm I can test at 10V and if the resistance is above 1 megohm I can switch and test at 100V."
Geoff was equally impressed with the Megger MIT 415, "It’s brilliant for survey work, quite often I have to crawl under benches or take readings in the darker corners of establishments and the large backlit display screen really stands out and is easy to read. Because I am travelling from site to site the well designed carrying case offers splendid protection during transit and the battery life is amazing, I get something like 2200 tests before I ever need to think about replacements." (NiMH rechargeable batteries can also be used.)
"Having the Megger MIT 415 in our armoury of test equipment is great for our customers. We are always urging ESD Coordinators to carry out regular, properly monitored and recorded checks of their ESD Protected Areas. Being able to demonstrate the equipment let them have a go and recommend the meter has already resulted in several sales," explained Mark.
Sue Hancocks, Sales Office Manager at SSE’s Head Office and her team regularly take enquiries for the Megger, "We can normally get the meter to our customers within seven working days from receipt of order. If any customer is considering buying a meter, a quick call to me and I can arrange for Geoff or Mark to pay a visit and carry out a demonstration. SSE’s Megger Men are waiting and ready to help!"

June 2009: The Dynamic Duo
A new bench installation team has been established at Static Safe Environments (SSE), one of the UK's leading providers of products, services and manufactured items to combat the problems associated with electrostatic discharge (ESD) and the damage it can do to sensitive electronic components.
The Adaptable Production System (APS) is a totally flexible bench system that can be configured to suit any layout and allows bespoke structures to be assembled with minimal specialist design or manufacturing input. The system, which is ideally suited for light electronics manufacturing or assembly, is based around an integrated range of silver-anodised aluminium extrusions and put together using hand tools.
The bench tops are covered with tough Neostat C2 static dissipative rubber and all modules are supplied with ESD wrist straps and ESD worktop bonding points.
The new bench installation team comprises Dave Whittall, the APS project manager, and Justin Thorne, who ably assists him.
Dave explained the new SSE approach to APS bench installations: "In the past, a lot of the APS bench assembly was carried out on site which meant taking quantities of components and necessitated extended installation periods. We have now decided that it is a more efficient use of time to assemble the bench frames in the SSE workshop and transport the completed units to customers’ premises for joining together, fitting bench tops and general finishing off."
"To do a job properly you must have the right tools" says Justin, "and we have been supplied with a fantastic range of assembly equipment which makes life easier both in our workshop and out on site."
"We are fortunate to have Beacon Roadways in our group of companies," added Dave. "Beacon staff are familiar with our bench systems and know how to handle them and their curtain sided vehicles with tail lifts make loading and unloading amazingly simple. In addition, the Beacon drivers are always willing to lend a hand in getting the benches to their final production location."
Dave and Justin are now referred to as the 'Dynamic Duo' and their teamwork and organisational skills have made a hugely positive impact on the assembly and installation of SSE's APS bench system, which is ideal for use in areas where electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a concern.
June 2009: Debbie's delight!
You may remember a news item from a couple of months ago celebrating Debbie Austin's 20 years with Static Safe Environments (SSE).
At the time Debbie mentioned her hopes and more specifically, those of her immediate family, that Wolverhampton Wanderers might get promoted to the Premiership. Well, Wolves did it and most impressively went up as Champions. Debbie is delighted!
Well done Wolves, well done Debbie and well done the rest of Debbie's family who cannot wait to welcome the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Birmingham City (well perhaps not Birmingham) to the Molineux next season.

March 2009: Static Stafe Environments improves its Sievi ESD shoes supply service
After almost 30 years of selling shoes to the ESD market Static Safe Environments, in conjunction with Sievi shoes, has taken a major step to improve the supply service it can offer to all its customers.
From 1 February 2009 SSE started to hold stocks of Sievi ESD shoes in its Stourbridge warehouse, allowing customers to receive next day delivery on selected styles and sizes rather than having to wait 10 days for delivery from Finland.
Sievi shoes, founded in 1951, have over 50 years experience of manufacturing occupational footwear and are the leading supplier of ESD shoes in Northern Europe.
Sue Hancocks, SSE’s Sales Office Manager said, ’It is great to have Sievi as a partner, they offer an excellent range of safety and occupational ESD shoes which look good and are very comfortable and durable. In addition, I am sure customers will be impressed by the technical specification and ESD performance of the shoes.’
For details of the complete Sievi ESD range, contact SSE and ask for a 2009 catalogue and free sizing gauge.
March 2009: Twenty Not Out
Debbie Austin came into SSE for the first time just over 20 years ago and 20 years on she still appears on a daily basis. Debbie’s unbroken run (excluding time off to have a family) at the company makes her one of the longest serving members of the SSE team.
Joining as an account junior straight out of college, Debbie has now become a very important and integral member of the Internal Sales Team.
Debbie commented, ‘I enjoy dealing with customers and every phone call brings a different challenge and a new set of circumstances. Our customers are friendly and it really is good to talk, even about football. My family are mad keen supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club and although I take an interest I would rather be watching Mamma Mia!
Sometimes the day after a Wolves game customers will tease me if the result has gone against us but I always give as good as I get’.
During the 20 years that Debbie has worked at SSE she has only seen Wolves in the top division once; her hope is that they will make the Premiership again before another 20 years is up. Maybe this season?
